The building has been part of the landscape since 1856, in that time its been a watchmaker, grocery, haberdashery and since the 1970ÔÇÖs The Balmain Bug. In its latest incarnation, The Balmain Bug is a welcoming restaurant, full of character with exposed beams, black & white marble floor and linen draped tables and blond wood chairs. Fine art Australia supply the decor on the walls, hanging an intriguing and engaging selection of nudes, outback sketches and dot paintings for sale by reknowned Australian artists Elizabeth Durack, Norman Lindsay and Indigenous artist Walangari, son of Albert Namatjira. Eyes twinkle and glasses tinkle at The Balmain Bug whilst deals are forged, hearts gel and families unite in this comfortably sophisticated and stylish venue.
With performances by more than 30 bands and solo artists every week ÔÇô over 4 nights plus a Sunday afternoon session - The Cat has established a reputation as one of the most musician-friendly pubs in Australia, playing host to all styles and genres of music from all over the country.
Dick's Hotel in Balmain is a very traditional Australian suburban hotel. Built in 1874 by John Dick it has stood the test of time in an area which has over twenty hotels. Dick's is popular with families, sports lovers and is a regular meeting place for work groups, locals and young singles.
Established in 1857 the Dry Dock is the oldest licensed hotel in Balmain. It originally serviced the workers from the dry dock at Mort Bay (opposite the hotel) and remains a favourite for many local Balmain residents. Historic photographs adorn our walls creating enhancing the Balmain atmosphere. The older style of the pub has been retained for a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Efendy is a stunning European-style restaurant and bar located on the Balmain peninsula midway between Balmain and Rozelle ÔÇô a short drive from SydneyÔÇÖs CBD.
